Helping Your Employees Through a Layoff

What can you do to help your employees that are laid off? It is a difficult position to be in when you have to reduce your workforce, but you want to give your employees all the help you can to get back into the workforce, so how can you help them?

Call your local Missouri Career Center and let the receptionist know you want to speak to someone about a Rapid Response. A Rapid Response is a meeting between the Workforce Development System and your employees that gives them information on how to survive a layoff. They will learn about filing for unemployment, programs available to help them get retrained or re-employed and how to register to seek employment through the state system. There is no cost to you and it allows you to give you employees a chance to get the information they need to plan for the future.

It is also important for you to give your employees a layoff letter that indicates they were laid off due to no fault of their own or due to downsizing. This will help them access free training opportunities.
